The Chairman Don Media Group, Mayor Lucky Igbokwe, has formally declared his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The declaration took place at the APC State Secretariat in Umuahia, in the presence of the State Chairman, Hon. Chijioke Chukwu, members of the State Working Committee, party executives, and stakeholders.

Speaking during the event, the State Chairman emphasized the unity within the party, stating clearly that there is no division within the APC. He reiterated that the party remains one united family focused on growth and victory.

In his declaration speech, Mayor Igbokwe highlighted his long-standing commitment to public service and community development. He reflected on his previous governorship ambition under the PDP, where he emerged as runner-up during the primaries, noting that his aspiration has always been to serve Abia State at the highest level.

However, in recognition of the principles of equity and zoning, he announced his decision to step down from his gubernatorial ambition and instead seek to represent the people of Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South at the National Assembly, while pledging full support for the party’s eventual governorship candidate.

Mayor Igbokwe outlined his contributions to society through the private sector, including the construction of houses, road projects, scholarship programs, and youth empowerment initiatives across communities. He also stressed his close connection with the grassroots and his consistent engagement with the people.

Calling for a shift in political dynamics, he urged the APC to create opportunities for young people and fresh faces who have not previously contested for office, emphasizing the need to test new leadership and harness the energy of the youth.

Mayor Igbokwe is the Chairman of Don Media Group, owners of Don FM 103.7 and Ikoro FM 93.3, two leading radio stations in Umuahia, the capital city, and has used his platforms to positively project the state and mobilize support for progressive causes.

In his remarks, Hon. Chijioke Chukwu commended Mayor Igbokwe for his dedication to the APC and his leadership within the City Boy Movement. He noted that through his efforts, the movement has successfully attracted a significant percentage of young people into the party, strengthening its appeal and structure across the state.

The State Chairman described Mayor Igbokwe as a valuable asset to the APC, highlighting his role in projecting Abia positively both within and outside the state. He further noted that the Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency seat requires quality representation, particularly in the areas of empowerment and youth development.

He encouraged Mayor Igbokwe to continue consultations at the ward and local government levels to consolidate support, emphasizing that the APC remains a party where power truly resides with the people.

In a vote of thanks, the State Secretary, Chidi Avajah, expressed appreciation to Mayor Igbokwe for his visit and engagement with the party leadership, offering prayers for the success of his political aspirations.

The event concluded with a renewed sense of unity and purpose among party members, reinforcing the APC’s commitment to inclusive leadership and grassroots development in Abia State.
